Meet Kristen Wolfred, Fairs & Fairgrounds Industry Expert

How long have you worked in the industry?

I've worked in the industry for 17 years. I worked for the Indiana State Fairgrounds & Event Center. I also worked for a decorating company managing events and 2 different not-for-profit organizations in marketing and communications, both of which hosted large events as well.

What are you most excited or passionate about?

I am very excited to get back into the system and continue to learn new ways to make it an even better solution for our customers. I am passionate about helping others and their organizations work more efficiently, develop great process and become the best they can be. This will always be my goal.

How and why did you end up working in the events industry?

I ended up in the event industry by circumstance. An internship with the Indiana State Fair lead to a full-time position on their marketing team. Since then I have been involved in events from many angles and just love the teamwork involved in providing experiences for people to make memories and establish traditions.

What have been the lessons you’ve learned in the events industry?

  • That no one person and no one incident can ruin an event. You work with a team and the team makes it great together
  • Today is not so much about what you're booking for an event as far as entertainment, but more about the experience your customers have while there. Same can be said for our customers’ experience using the software.
  • People now make decisions based on disposable time, more than they do disposable income, therefore #2 is essential!

Is there a specific project you’ve worked on in your career that you’re most proud of?

In my last two years with the Indiana State Fairgrounds I developed a community engagement program that took our team out into the surrounding neighborhoods twice a year to help with various projects and allowed our team to get involved with some great organizations helping our neighbors. I am incredibly proud of this accomplishment and I look forward to getting involved in these efforts at Ungerboeck!

If you are a perfectionist, you may need therapy! 😊

What’s one thing most people don’t know about you?

My husband and I own a home in Noblesville that was built in 1900 and we are slowly renovating it. We hope to become the next Chip and Joanna!
