Meet Robert Olson, Exhibition and Associations Industries Expert

Robert Olson

How long have you worked in the industry?

 I started working in the meetings & events business in 1997 with the St. Louis Convention & Visitors Commission (SLCVC).  I had the opportunity to utilize Ungerboeck’s Event Management Software at that time in my role at the SLCVC.  After almost 18 years, I went to work in the Information Security business.  I did that for 6 years before coming to work for Ungerboeck in 2021.

What are you most excited or passionate about?

 I am most passionate about sharing my knowledge & experience of Ungerboeck software with other organizations who can benefit from this unique and robust solution.

Is there a specific project you’ve worked on in your career that you’re most proud of?

As mentioned, I helped bring Ungerboeck to the SLCVC, replacing the antiquated AS400 system of CRM and Event Management.  That was almost 25 years ago and they are still benefitting from the transition today.

What have been the lessons you’ve learned in the events industry? 

Work smarter, not harder.  Let software help automate tasks and make our lives more efficient and predictable.

What relationships have meant the most to you over your career?

 The relationships I enjoy most are those customers who became friends.  When you provide a valued service to others, it creates an atmosphere of trust and mutual interest in each other’s successes.

Tell me a bit about what you like most about working for Ungerboeck?

 I like knowing that our solution helps people and their organizations solve problems.  It is the most comprehensive solution in the market and I feel passionate about providing it to my customers.

What are 3 words to describe Ungerboeck? 

Robust, Comprehensive, Personal

What’s on your Wish List for the next 10 years at Ungerboeck?  

Ungerboeck is already a global name but I want to make it known to every event planner in the business, large & small.

When you think of the future of the events industry, what do you think will be the “next thing(s)” we are all talking about? What should we be concerned or worried about? 

 I believe the “next thing” is already upon us…Information Security in the events industry.  Tool consolidation into one comprehensive solution helps keep your information safe across one platform.

What advice would you have for someone going into the events industry? 

 Be open to new ideas and technology, and trust in the advice of those who have been there before us.  For those with more experience, be willing to share your knowledge with those newer to the industry.
